A car roof rack refers to a bracket installed on the roof for tying luggage, which is the basis for all the loading needs of the car roof. In addition, the existence of the luggage rack can also improve the stability of the vehicle during driving, especially when loading heavier items. In short, the car roof rack is very practical for people who travel by car or long distance.
The two horizontal bars fixed on the roof of the car are the basic devices for all the loading solutions on the roof of the car. The fixing methods of the car roof rack are mainly divided into: ordinary roof, separated longitudinal rails, integrated longitudinal rails, rain gutter fixing, artificial addition of fixing points, and artificial addition of T-slots.
Taking the most common longitudinal rail as an example, it is also divided into three types:
1. Arch bridge type
This is the most common, with an arch bridge in the middle. It is very easy to add a horizontal luggage rack. If you don’t want to add a bracket, you can also tie it with a rope, as long as it can be fixed. For example, Highlander, Tiguan, Venucia T70, etc.
2. Tight fit
This type of longitudinal rail fits perfectly on the roof, with beautiful streamlines and looks shorter, so the height after adding a transverse bracket is lower than that of the arch bridge type longitudinal rail. For example, Audi Q7, BMW X1, Jeep Compass.
3. Slot type
This type of longitudinal rail is used in fewer models, and the height is lower than the above two longitudinal rails. Representative models include Land Rover Discovery.
Of course, it is not enough to have only a longitudinal rail for a car roof rack. If you want to put a bicycle or car luggage boxes on it, you also need to buy a transverse bracket. Different longitudinal rails have different installation methods, so you also need to measure the distance between the front and the back when installing the transverse bracket. If necessary, you can consult a professional first.
